Are you interested in Stewarding, how about a possibility of being at the 2012 games as volunteer staff?
Sport England and South West Forum are funding the programme we call Train Of Events. Upon successful completion of the NVQ2 candidates will be placed on the 2012 Olympic games volunteer staff database for a chance of "in game time volunteering". Many will apply to volunteer for the Games, but those people already holding a Sport England qualification will stand in particularly good stead.
At GAVCA we have been running FREE training ,to anyone aged 19 or over, in an NVQ2 in Spectator Safety and Emergency First Aid. Training takes place at GAVCA in class for three days and is followed by three assessed events where participants act as volunteer stewards. We have had fantastic support from event organisers requesting our steward volunteers and have sent people to Wychwood, Guildhall, Vie en Bleu, Triathlons, Football matches and more.
The first two days of class training will give candidates a nationally recognised basic certificate in stewarding and this qualification is available to anyone aged 16 and upwards. Candidates then go and do an experience event as a volunteer steward, before going onto the third day of training if they are aged 19 and over for the NVQ2 qualification followed by the assessed events.
Further higher qualifications will be offered on completion of the NVQ2 eg NVQ3 in event management or the A1 Assessor qualficiation.
