Training & Learning

GAVCA aims to ensure that all voluntary and community groups within Gloucestershire have access to training and learning on issues that they have identified as a priority.

GAVCA runs a comprehensive programme of short courses, in particular in management, governance, personal effectiveness, human resources and policy development. The Short Course programme aims to provide training which is accessible and affordable, particularly to newer and smaller groups in the early stages of their development.

Tailor-made training

GAVCA can also work more closely with organisations to look at learning needs for trustees, employees or volunteers.  Learning programmes can then be specifically tailored so that participants can work together to plan and think about the future of their organisation.

Other training information that is of interest and relevance to the voluntary and community sector is available on the Gloshub website.

Gloucestershire Enterprise

GAVCA is continuing the arrangement with Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd offering places on a range of courses (see link below) at a reduced rate for the voluntary and community sector groups across the county.

Gloucester Works - free training for VCO staff working in or living in Gloucester City

GAVCA is now an approved training provider for “Gloucester Works”, a partnership initiative being led by Gloucestershire First.

This means that you can apply for FREE training from GAVCA if your VCO group is in Gloucester or you are an individual working in a VCO outside Gloucester but living within Gloucester City.

The FREE training is

  • Open to individuals who live in, or work in, the city of Gloucester. For the purpose of this funding ‘Gloucester City’ includes Innsworth, Staverton, Longford, Brockworth, Severn Vale, Fieldcourt, Churchdown, Hucclecote, Barnwood, Upton St Leonards and Hardwicke.
  • The training course must be at least 6 hours long, i.e. a full-day course or a series of half-day courses
  • Each organisation can receive up to 10 pots of funding, which will be claimed directly by GAVCA, so you don’t need to worry about the bother of paying and claiming reimbursement.

You just book on the course and we do the rest.

  • The training is free to organisations - but it has to be stressed that participants must actually attend the training or GAVCA will have to recoup the full cost (£150 per day) from your organisation
  • The booking process will be slightly longer and there will be more forms to fill in before the training and on the day of the course.  Participants must bring along their National Insurance (NI) number to the training, since this is required for the data sheet.

HR Champions - workshops

GAVCA also works in partnership with HR Champions, who offer a number of workshops mostly dealing with leadership and management issues, which can be funded by Gloucester Works. Download their one-page PDF for more details.
