Specialist training developed for the Sector by the Sector

All of GAVCA’s courses are developed to meet the needs of the voluntary and community sector in the County. However, GAVCA’s courses are available and valuable to anyone – regardless of the sector you work in.

Credits to help you on your learning journey

Each of GAVCA’s accredited courses has a credit value, level and course description with learning aims. We encourage everyone to use their existing work or voluntary experience to build on and develop skills and knowledge for life. You are encouraged to think about what you would like to gain from the course and ensure the learning aims match these expectations.

Small stepsSmall Steps - flexible learning

Our courses are designed so that learners can build up credits one by one. We see each learner’s journey as taking small steps. GAVCA’s training courses are developed to support learners - by studying each course at a time, you can continue to meet your work and personal commitments.

Investing in the future

GAVCA is registered with OCN Credit4Learning – you will be able to accrue credits that are nationally recognised by colleges and other educational establishments as ‘underpinning knowledge’. This means that if you enrol on a Higher Education course at a college, the credits you achieve from GAVCA may be used towards your college course and could shorten your learning.

Quality Assured

Just because the units are built up over time, it does not mean that they are not worth the same as more intensive study. OCN Credit4Learning is a nationally recognised body with strict quality standards and even though GAVCA’s training is of exceptional quality already, we have to meet strict teaching, learning and assessment criteria set by OCN Credit4Learning too and are externally verified regularly by them.

Affordable training for any budget

Our course fees have been frozen for nearly three years now and are highly subsidised to ensure that we can continue to deliver high quality training at a reasonable price. And don’t forget that training is still half price for GAVCA members! To cover the additional administration, registration and staff costs, accredited courses cost an additional £35 per course; this is the same fee for members or non-members.

Accessible learning in a supportive environment

All of our training rooms have disabled access and we will cater for special requirements where possible. Our trainers have years of experience working with the voluntary, public and private sector, as well as with small groups, large organisations, staff, volunteers and trustees.
