Gloucester Association for Voluntary and Community Action (GAVCA) supports and represents local voluntary action by working in partnership to promote equality.

GAVCA is a local development agency supporting voluntary and community groups in Gloucester and Cheltenham.  It also has a countywide role.

GAVCA has five core functions:

1. Development: to enable the voluntary/community sector to identify, and appropriately meet, unmet needs and gaps in service provision.

2. Support: to enhance the capacity of the voluntary and community sector by providing and promoting technical and practical support services.

3. Liaison: to encourage networking, enabling the voluntary/community sector to share knowledge, information and skills, and to promote liaison between the voluntary, public and private sectors.

4. Representation: to ensure effective and accountable representation of voluntary and community sector views and interests.

5. Strategic Partnerships: to broker an effective role for the voluntary/community sector at a strategic level.

GAVCA believes in:

Valuing those who work within GAVCA, in particular the time and skills contributed by volunteers,  and encouraging teamwork,  personal development and support for all.

Being accountable to our members, service users, our funders, our colleagues and all other stakeholders.

Ensuring equality of  access to all our services and anti-discriminatory practice in all that we do.

The independence of the voluntary sector and in particular of GAVCA, to comment on public policy, determine its own affairs and choose its own direction.

Treating eachother and all those with whom we work with respect, which includes being open and honest in all communication with them.
